Simplifying Your Home Decor
Do you like your home neat and tidy? Do you want to make a small space feel more spacious? Maybe a more simple home interior is for you. Follow our tips below on how to simplify your home decor.
1. Use a minimalist color palette.
Usually 3-4 colors in your interior will do. Just make sure to use only neutral colors for your larger furniture. Using softer neutral colors on larger furnishings like your walls, rugs and couches is also a good idea for showcasing whatever other colors you choose for your interior.
2. Go easy on the accessories.
Sometimes less is more, having too many knick-knacks on your flat surfaces will make your interior seem cluttered and crowded. Try to keep just a few of your favorites or the ones that have the most impact on your décor and stow away the rest.
3. Make use of storage.
As we said earlier, keeping your space clutter-free is important in minimalistic interior design. For example, baskets or binds under the sofa or coffee table are great places to store toys, puzzles and board games. If you have some items that need to be used daily, make sure that they have a specific “home” that is easily accessible such as a key hanger at the front door for your house & car keys.
4. Let your space breathe.
Try to arrange your furniture away from the walls. Just 10 centimeters or so away from the wall will do. This will go a long way to making your space feel more spacious and less cluttered.
5. Window dressings.
Hang some drapes or some window blinds. As we said earlier, try to keep to neutral colors. If you’re hanging curtains, make sure they are at most 10 centimeters from the ceiling and up to 15 centimeters from either side of the door/window. They should hang just below the window sill or all the way to the floor. Sheer curtains work really well with a minimalistic interior, adding much needed texture contrast and providing natural light without sacrificing privacy.
