Tips and Tricks on Utilizing Roman Shades in Your Design Concept
In continuation with yesterday's article:
8. No lining
The lining serves as an extra layer of protection for the fabric from the effects of direct sunlight. It extends the life of the shade by slowing down the rate at which the fabric deteriorates.
However, if the windows are not directly exposed to sunlight, unlined roman shades can allow a greater degree of natural light to filter into the room. The fabric still should not deteriorate as quickly as it will not be exposed to direct sunlight.
9. Curtains
Pairing roman shades and curtains is a good idea especially for rooms that receive very heavy sunlight. The curtains can cover the window frame completely reducing the amount of light that bleeds into the room from around the shade while the shades add an additional barrier to further reduce sunlight penetration. In colder, windier climates this combination can also assist with insulation from the cooler outside temperatures and cold winds.
Adding in curtains also increases your options for color, pattern and texture coordination to really give your room some added depth and sophistication.
10. Room size
Blinds with striped patterns might make your room seem longer or your ceiling taller. This is especially true for roman shades as they fold neatly above the window frame when drawn up, occupying the space between the window frame and ceiling.
11. Use a box frame
For a tidier finish, you can add a box frame to the edges of your window frame. This will make the overall look seem neat and sleek. It will also soften the space by reducing the amount of hard, straight edges on your window frames. This also has the added function of preventing light from bleeding around the edges of your blinds and giving less corners and surface area for dust to collect, making your windows easier to clean.
In addition, you can also install a box pelmet above the window which the shades can fold into. This will also soften up the space by hiding the straight lines and edges on the folded shades and help make your space feel more neat and tidy. It will also help prevent dust from collecting in the folded shades.
