Make the Most out of Your Window Treatments Tip 1:
Hang your Curtains High
One of the
first things you should do when moving into a new space is to hang up some
curtains on
your window. The drapes add warmth, depth, color and softness to an
otherwise bland space to make your room feel more homely. Follow these simple
tips to learn how to make the most of your window dressings.
Want to make
your room seem larger and more impressive instantly? Try hanging your curtains
high. Aim for at least 30cm of clearance above your window frame or hang your
rail right up to your ceiling. This will make your room and window seem taller
than it really is as it occupies the space between your window frame and
ceiling. Extend the rail beyond the sides of the window frame too to really
make your windows seem wide.
Not giving
your drapes enough clearance above your window frame will make your windows
look stunted, making your room feel shorter. It also makes your walls seem more
crowded and busy. Another important note, your curtains should not hang more
than 5cm inside the frame on either side when fully opened. This makes your
windows will look narrower than they really are, making the walls seem even busier
and more crowded.
